They are the files used to calculate the web site statistics. Having access to the raw log files allows you to download them for archiving and allows you to run your own statistics software package on your own computer so that you can get more detailed information about your visitors. Logfiles take up a lot of disk space, therefore you need to prune them periodically to keep disk space from using up all your space. Down load them to your own personal computer for viewing as well as storage to free up as much space for more important things such as photographs you wish to view on your website. You also have the option to disable the log files and not worrying about the files taking up room on your hosting space.
